ZX Spectrum SE (MK II)

So there's this ZX Spectrum SE revival thing happening at the moment. It's kind of like the old one, but with a 64K ROM. This is a slight problem as the ZX core in the Uno doesn't seem to support the Timex MMU when port 1FFD is enabled. The new version of the SE doesn't require full support for the ...

Re: RFC: Application Package Format

There is no such thing as doing anything for the spectrum except for fun. The amount of money raised by the Elite, RCL, and Olifiers crowd-funding campaigns suggests otherwise. I would say you're more likely to reach more people programming the next than programming the standard spectrums - the act...

Re: RFC: Application Package Format

Ah, you're reinventing SZX only in an incompatible format that won't work with emulation. OK. No there is a difference between a real machine format and an emulator format. SNA originated on real hardware (the Mirage Microdriver) and was the dominant snapshot format for emulators until Z80 came alo...

Re: RFC: Application Package Format

It's been a while and I am about to implement a RIFF-like .exe format Ah, you're reinventing SZX only in an incompatible format that won't work with emulation. OK. obfuscation seed Can't programmers be bothered to do their own obfuscation? Oh well. Matt also landed on the RIFF format Two incompatib...

Re: ESXDOS 0.8.6 final disponible

You can autoload TAP and TRD now. I figured out a workaround. However, there is an issue with the ZX Core that prevents esxDOS working in 48 BASIC mode. But Miguel has an update for it. You can grab the ROMset here: https://zx.itch.io/derbyplusplus And I've written a manual for the Derby++ version o...

Re: Is EXP24 the latest open source core?

It is sad to read the impact the next project has on the spectrum fpga scene. I had a bad feeling myself, but did not know that it is felt by so many people. Most people keep quiet because anyone who raises concerns is shouted down by the fanbois or banned from the official forum on Facebook. In pa...

Re: Is EXP24 the latest open source core?

I know of three FPGA projects besides the Uno's ZX core that are withholding details and code until the Next is over. Among hardware developers there appears to be a growing consensus that the Next is a bad faith project. From my point of view what really irritates me is not that the Next has ripped...

Re: Looking for a 48k with 64 chars per line

The Spectrum core on the ZX Uno is the best FPGA implementation. There's no contest. Because it implements the Spectrum SE design, it can already do useful things the TBBlue core cannot, like running TS2068 software.

Re: ZXDOS, sobre la modernización del ZX-SPECTRUM

Is it 1998 again? The Spectrum SE is already more Spectrum than anyone is writing code for and that's 18 years old now (and supported in the Uno's ZX core). :) What is a Spectrum? A machine that can run most software written for the 48K machine without emulation. When does it stop being a Spectrum? ...
